WRWC 2010: Final statistics

Kelly Brazier's winning kick means she ends the tournament as top point scorer

We bring you some interesting statistics following the final day of matches at Women's Rugby World Cup 2010.

  • The final standings of Women's Rugby World Cup 2010 are: 1. New Zealand 2. England 3. Australia 4. France 5. USA 6. Canada 7. Ireland 8. Scotland 9. Wales 10. South Africa 11. Sweden 12. Kazakhstan.

  • A crowd of 13.253 watched New Zealand beat England 13-10 in the final at the Twickenham Stoop with Kelly Brazier's penalty 14 minutes from time proving the winning kick.

  • Carla Hohepa of New Zealand was named the IRB Women's Personality of the Year 2010 in association with Emirates Airline after the final. The other nominees were Australia wing Nicole Beck and England duo Maggie Alphonsi and Danielle Waterman.

  • The Black Ferns have now won 19 consecutive World Cup matches since their only defeat, a 7-0 loss to USA in the 1991 semi finals.

  • The three-point winning margin is the closest any team has come to beating New Zealand in their four World Cup winning campaigns since.

  • New Zealand's victory margin at The Stoop is also the smallest in a Women's Rugby World Cup final. The biggest, by contrast, is 32 points from the 1998 final when the Black Ferns beat USA 44-12 in Amsterdam.

First SOE Event - Success!

Support Our Eagles is a Success

by Jenny Menke

The crowds gathered at Legends Bar and Grill on Saturday, August 28, 2010 to support the US Eagles playing in this year’s IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup.

With three Valkyries on the squad and a number of current and former Valks in Surrey for support, spectators were eager to catch the England/US game.  While the outcome of the match was not in favor of the Americans, the evening was still a success for our players.  Proceeds from the beer bust (sponsored by Schell’s Premium Beer) will go to help Christy Ringgenberg, Kristin “Ham” Zdanczwicz, and Mel Kanuk pay for expenses they incur while playing in the Cup.  The silent auction, which received donations from sponsors Rugby Athletic and SGT Petersons, benefited Jillion Potter, a Valkyrie and US national team player, and former captain, who was injured in a match prior to leaving for the World Cup.  The Minnesota Valkyries would like to thank all of our fans and sponsors who made the night a success, and would like to send our support to our teammates abroad who embody the spirit of women’s rugby.

The USA team takes on Canada September 5th, at 1:30 England time!  For results and video go to RWCWomens.com

IRB.com spotlight: Ringgenberg

Ringgenberg looks for more from USA Women

"We did some things we haven't done in the past, we put some numbers on the board and that was a confidence builder for us," explained Ringgenberg, the leading point scorer in the tournament after matchday one.

USA kicked off their Women's Rugby World Cup 2010 campaign with a 51-0 defeat of Kazakhstan, but fly half Christy Ringgenberg insists there is still plenty they need to work on before facing Ireland in their second Pool B match on Tuesday.

Ringgenberg scored two tries in a personal haul of 26 points against the Asian champions, but despite the seven-try performance and collection of what could be a vital try-scoring bonus point in the race for the semi finals, the fly half knows there is always room for improvement.
