Lynx Game Wrap-Up PDF Print E-mail

by Jenny Menke

Current players and Vintage Valks made their way to the Target Center on Saturday June 6 to see the Minnesota Lynx best  the Chicago Sky in the WNBA season opener, 102-85.  The Valkyries watched the game unfold from their floor-level lounge seats, just meters away from the players.  Jen "Trie" Triemstra was especially excited to see her favorite Lynx player, Nicky Anosike, up close and personal.  "It was great to be there with my teammates, enjoying the game," she said, adding that she looks forward to another opportunity to spend time with both present and past players and to continue to build camaraderie.  Also excited to be at the game on Saturday were Veggie and Mojo who, unfortunately missed their Jumbotron screen-time, but did partake in plenty of socializing and cheering.  Special thanks to Blaire Zummak for her efforts organizing everything.  We all look forward to more Valkyrie events in the near future.Lynx Game

St. Patrick’s Day Parade Wrap-Up PDF Print E-mail

StPatsTeamOn Tuesday, March 17, the Minnesota Valkyries introduced themselves to Minneapolis residents by marching in the city’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  The team was partnered with Gwen and her dog Ratchet, who was brought back from her military service in Baghdad.  The short seven-block parade still permitted the Valkyries an opportunity to show off their rugby skills by putting up line-outs and scrumming down at red lights.  The children loved catching passes from team members and watching the Valkyries switch and skip in elaborate passing lines.

This event was not just for fun: the Valkyries sold beads and buttons on behalf of the Minneapolis St. Patrick’s Day Association, raising money to send children with diabetes to Camp Needlepoint. In the weeks leading up to the parade, the Valkyries also worked with the St. Patrick’s Day Association to sell shamrocks to patrons at local bars in the Twin Cities.  These $1 and $5 shamrocks also raised money for Camp Needlepoint’s scholarships.  The St. Patrick’s Day parade and the Valkyries’ work with the St. Patrick’s Day Association was a great way to couple with the community and show off our team.
